The question, “who am I?” is arguably one of the most asked. What identifies you as a person (where does your identity come from)? How important is the source of one’s identity?
This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun! (2 Corinthians 5:17, NLT)
What does Paul say here about our identity, and what do you think this means for you?
Your struggle to find your identity is ultimately meaningless and purposeless if there is no God. Why do you think this is?
And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. (Romans 8:28, NLT)
What does this promise mean about your identity?
Not understanding the source of your identity can lead to a lifetime of struggles.
All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us. For the more we suffer for Christ, the more God will shower us with his comfort through Christ. (2 Corinthians 1:3-5, NLT)
Have you ever thought that no one knows what you’re going through? Explain. Paul tells us that God comforts us and allows people who have been through similar struggles to also comfort us! Is there anyone in your life that you can share your struggles with? What is the benefit of doing this?
